Are You Considering Eye Bag Removal Surgery? Find out about options the surgeons don't want you to know about!

Think you’re ready for blepharoplasty – lower eyelid surgery?! Find out why Doctors & Surgeons want you to wait for the right time for surgery on your eye wrinkles and what you can do in the meantime!
We know the feeling all too well… that moment when you start googling “eye bag surgery” or “lower eyelid surgery” to see your options and learn a new surgery word ‘lower blepharoplasty’!
As we get older, we notice more under-eye wrinkles form… as well as bigger bags under our eyes, eye puffiness and dark circles. Our eyes are one of the first parts of our body that show aging as a sign of loss of collagen, sun exposure, lack of sleep and believe it or not having an expressive face!
Lower blepharoplasty, is an operation to remove excess skin and fat from your under-eyes and to tighten your skin and soft tissues around your eyes. But did you know many Cosmetic Doctors & Surgeons – good ones anyway – will advise you to wait until they deem you ‘ready’. We are our own harshest critics, judging every line and wrinkle, but these surgeries work best when the lines and wrinkles are deep enough and the skin is non-elastic enough to ensure successful surgery and the best possible results. Plenty of surgeons will advise you to use some interim solutions until you are ready to go under the knife. Fluid retention can often cause puffy under eyes and unwanted under-eye bags and is so common that there are now many non-surgical in clinic treatments proven to work after a bit of downtime.
Non-surgical in clinic treatments
Dermal fillers are a popular non-invasive solution to consider before making that call to a surgeon. Dermal fillers are used to treat the delicate under-eye areas and can be used to treat even slight under-eye bags by evening out the surface of the under-eye. Hyaluronic acid is the primary choice for the under-eye area as it can diminish dark circles, smooth fine lines and wrinkles all whilst brightening the under-eye area. The results from this treatment typically last about 4-6 months.
Microneedling or collagen induction therapy is another short-term option to consider. Microneedling uses extremely small needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. As your body repairs, it creates cells and capillaries generating collagen and elastin. Once healed, the skin may appear smoother and inflammation, puffiness and bags under the eyes may be less visible.
Tear trough implants are another popular under-eye procedure. It works through inserting a silicone implant through a small incision, then placed over the bone mass under the eyelid for a fuller, more youthful appearance. Whilst predominantly used for dark circles under the eyes, tear trough implants can also even out the protruding eyelid skin that appears similarly to bags.
A final procedure that is worth mentioning is laser to lower eyelids, also known as a laser blepharoplasty. This procedure allows a patient to replicate the results of a traditional blepharoplasty without going under the knife. Fractional lasers make micro-injuries in the skin, the resultant healing process creates collagen. Laser blepharoplasty can help treat drooping lower eyelids, under-eye bags and fine wrinkles around the lower eyelids.
Home based treatments
You can get some great interim results at home, which is exactly why at Wrinkles Schminkles we created our range of fast-acting skincare. We don’t for a minute suggest you’ll get the results of surgery, but we do promise that our clinically proven skincare lines will deliver some solid results.
Our Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Patches are a perfect non-invasive alternative to using injectables to target lines and under-eye wrinkles while our caffeine infused Eye Smoothing & Depuffing Masks will rapidly infuse to plump, depuff and target puffiness and dark circles. So, if you are at that stage where Silicone Eye Pads and Eye Masks can work to get rid of crows feet and under eye wrinkles, chances are you might not be ready for lower blepharoplasty.
Protection from the sun is also a must, which can be done by wearing sunglasses and putting SPF 50 sunscreen on your face every day. Also, look for skincare that contains brightening ingredients such as vitamin B3 (niacinamide) and caffeine. Our Eye Smoothing & Depuffing Masks contain caffeine, which works to reduce redness and further improve skin texture.
And last but definitely not least, keeping the skin hydrated using hydrating ingredients is an absolute must for all types of aging under and around the eyes! Hyaluronic Acid and Silk found in our Hydrating Under Eye Masks will work to keep the skin hydrated and improve collagen production to help maintain skin elasticity.
So, before you go under the knife, put some of these alternatives to the test and say enough to the puff once and for all!
